When I first moved into my apartment five years ago, I brought along a Polaroid camera. Why it survived the purge of moving, I don’t know. But it did. To make myself feel better about keeping such low-tech junk, I started taking photos of people the first time they entered my little studio. In five years, about 36 people have come over (at least, when I remembered to take their portraits). Some are friends. Others have last names completely unknown to me.
